BETA RHO UPSILON HYSTORY

                                                            HISTORY

                   BETA RHO UPSILON FRATERNITY AND SORORITY INCORPORATED

At the University of Santo Tomas, EspaƱa, Manila, a group of students from the colleges of Engineering, Architecture, Science and Liberal Arts
consensually agreed to merge their respective campus organizations and establish in the university a “fraternity”.

This gave birth to the BETA RHO UPSILON on August 24, 1962, The pioneering organizers were: Joselito “Jojie” Sunga, Raphael “Buddy” Fabia,
Boy Mondragon, Deo Fontilla, who were the founders of IPB (International Playboys); Ponciano “Nonoy” Jerez, who founded the THUNDERBIRDS at
the College of Science; Rogelio “Roger” Madrid, likewise dissolved and integrated some of the members of the BEAKERS; Florencio “Boy” Concepcion,
Esteban ‘Steve” Dacuma; Jose ‘Boy” Fabia; Renato ‘Boy” Ty; Mario “Rio” Javier; Rogui Guillas; Frank lota; Nilo Abesamis; Nestor “Estong” Villaflor;
Manuel “Uto” Orlina; Oscar Bulanan: Nestor “Es” Mario; Oscar Bolante; Primo Digao; Percy Alisasis; Boy Dolmacion; Henry Loyola; Benjie dela Cruz;
Arthur Santiago; Thomas “Tommy” Corpus; Edwardo Ponse; Percy Villaraza; Carlos “Caloy” de Vera; Rodolfo “Rudy” Quiroz; Joey Coronel; etc..
ln order to expand the membership and establish a superiority in numbers, charter members were recruited and among them were Dodo Bueno;
Reynaldo “Rey” Cabauatan; Henry Daswani; Eddie Pabalan; Boy Gregorio; Butch Lagasca; Bam Clerigo; Maramag; Jarave....etc

After having established the composition of the organizational structure of BETA RHO UPSILON, Carlos “Caloy” De Vera was elected to the position
of the first Grand High Chancellor.

With this development, membership to the fraternity was declared open to students of UST. The process of recruitment was to test the
candidates’ determination to join by way of challenging their mental and physical stability under pressure. It was Jojie Sunga who introduced the
“mark” on the neophyte’s palm and became a traditional practice up to the present times. The “Mark” has developed to become the Beta Rhoan Pride
as it depicts one’s stability under pressure not only in its rituals but in campus Fratwars.

Organizational warfares in campus were common and considered a fact not only among frat members but as well as the studentry in general.
It could be said that the university security force then, was not efficient and sufficient enough to neutralize students actions that went against the
university rules and regulations. Fr. Ernesto Mata, who was the Prefect of Discipline had difficulties in dealing with the notoriety of the Beta Rhoans
who also demonstrated their academic excellence in their respective college courses. Although outnumbered in the initial engagements with rival
fraternities for campus domination, the Beta Rhoans would stand their grounds until reinforcements would arrive and execute counter-action moves.
As a result of its notoriety and stability, three (3) prominent traditional fraternities joined forces purposely to confront and abolish BETA RHO
UPSILON. All attempts exerted by the said fraternity did not succeed at all. Their failures and defeats from BRU became the talk of the campus. It was a
pride having dominated campus fraternity activities. As a consequence, other fraternities self-destructed while other fratmen preferred to defect and
join the Beta Rho Upsilon.

Having established its fraternal confidence among the brotherhood of men under theFatherhood of God the BRU core decided to expand
membership from other schools and universities in 1970 within Metro-Manila and started establishing Chapters in Far East AeroTechnological Institute
(FEATI); National University (NU);Manuel L. Quezon College (MLQ); University of the East (UE); University of the Philippines (UP); Cento Escolar
University (CEU); Philippine College of Criminology (PCCr); Trinity College etc.

The expansion opened the opportunity for female students to join and be recognized as the SORORITIES and re-establish it to BETA RHO UPSILON
FRATERNITY and SORORITY. The expansion of the Fraternity, however, did not confine itself in Metro-Manila only but continued to establish chapters
nationwide. Most glaring was the recruitment of members to the Fraternity in the whole Region of Mindanao thru the able efforts of brother Sonny
Lawan Lucman. Likewise, members of Beta Rho Upsilon Fraternity and Sorority was established in the Ilocos region under the collective efforts of its
Ilocano members presently headed by brother Richard Santiago, a blood brother of one of the pioneers.

On the third quarter of 2010, the brethren from the United States of America held a special meeting in Los Angeles, California and unanimously
agreed to recognize Brother Reynaldo C. Cabauatan to be the Interim President of the Beta Rho Upsilon Fraternity and Sorority effective immediately to
consolidate members and establish the much needed organizational communications. Through the aid of modern information technologies, numerous
members from different sectors of society, began communicating. And on February 21, 2012, the Beta Rho Upsilon Fraternity and Sorority was
incorporated and registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) with registry number CN201102942.

The brethren from Mindanao area was consolidated and recognized under the banner of Beta Rho Upsilon Fraternity and Sorority Incorporated,
MINDANAO Chapter on February 21, 2012 headed by Brother Sonny Lucman. Likewise, our Brethren from Northern Luzon consolidated the Ilocano
Beta Rhoans and recognized as the ILOCOS REGION CHAPTER on the same date under the stewardship of Brother Richard Santiago. Brother Sonny
Ilagan is NCR CHAPTER president while Brother Dennis Lapuz is at present the President of the USA Chapter.

Today, the Beta Rhoans worldwide excel from their respective professions and has greatly contributed their intellectual properties to community
projects and developments in the fields of science, law and order, national security, economy, public service and other fields of national concerns.
